Small kitchen gear for one burner and 30 cm of counter
The short answer: you need one burner, one deep pan with a lid, one board, one good knife and somewhere for ingredients to wait. Nothing here needs drilling, and everything packs away when you move.
This is the kit behind dinner on one burner with 30 cm of counter and the one-pan pumpkin pasta. Storage for the rest of the kitchen is in small kitchen storage without drilling.

One burner
If the hob works, use it. A plug-in single induction burner is for a broken or missing stove, a second ring, or a studio with no hob.
- Measure the free spot: the burner needs its own footprint plus a few cm of air on each side; never put it on the board.
- It draws up to 1800 W: plug it straight into a wall outlet, not an extension strip shared with a kettle.
- Induction only heats pans with a magnetic base. Test yours with a fridge magnet.

One deep pan with a lid
The whole recipe happens in this pan, so it has to be deep enough for pasta plus water and have a lid.
- 24-26 cm (10 in) across fits a single burner and one serving.
- At least 5 cm deep, or the pasta water boils over.
- For induction, the listing must say induction-compatible.
1. SENSARTE deep non-stick skillet with lid
10 in (25 cm) pan, 2.7 in (7 cm) deep, 3.5 qt, glass lid, induction base. Choose the 10 in size on the listing for one burner and one serving.

10 in deep sauté pan with a lid, tri-ply stainless, induction-compatible and oven safe.
A board that sits over the sink
When the counter is 30 cm, the sink is the second surface. A board that bridges the sink gives you a place to cut and a colander underneath.
- Measure the inside width of your sink at the top: the board has to rest on both edges.
- A board with a lip or non-slip feet stays put while you cut.
1. Dexas over-the-sink cutting board with colander
11.5 x 20 in (29 x 51 cm) board that bridges the sink, with a collapsible 2.5 qt colander underneath and non-slip edges.
2. NiHome over-sink cutting board with colander
11 x 17.7 in (28 x 45 cm) board for smaller sinks, with a detachable, collapsible 7.3 in drain basket and non-slip corners.
Small bowls (the wait spot)
The trick in every recipe here: what waits goes into a mug or a small bowl on the windowsill, not on the counter.
- Stackable glass bowls nest into one stack in a cupboard.
- A mug does the same job if you have no space for anything new.
1. HillSpring glass prep bowl set, 3 sizes
12 small clear glass bowls (1.5, 2.5 and 3.5 oz) that stack: the wait spot for sliced garlic, grated cheese or spices.
One good knife
One sharp chef's knife does all the cutting on a small board. A blunt knife needs more force and more room.
- An 8 in (20 cm) blade suits a 30 cm board.
- Store it in a blade guard in a drawer if you cannot screw a magnetic strip to the wall.
No Amazon pick listed: the one we checked had no seller on amazon.com on the check day. The knife you already own works if it is sharp.
Drying without a dish rack
A roll-up rack lies across the sink, so wet dishes do not take the counter you just freed.
- Check the sink width at the top against the rack's length.
- It rolls up into a drawer after use.
1. Surpahs 17.5 x 13.1 in roll-up dish drying rack
Lies across sinks up to 16.5 in wide, silicone over stainless rods, heat resistant to 400°F, rolls up into a drawer.
